UNusual subbuteo STUFF
This is a bit of a gallery of misfits really. Subbuteo accessories and teams that don’t always make much sense but you can understand why they produced them.
TANGO sponsored
Barmy FC is part of a marketing campaign with Tango, the soft drinks company. Only produced in the late 1990s so they are part of the Hasbro offering. According to Peter Upton’s reference site these were produced as single players too as part of a competition but I personally don’t remember them. The full Barmy FC team was a magazine freebie and mainly produce for promotional events. I really don’t remember how I came about my team but you can be sure it would have been cheap. It’s everything I loathe - gaudy, cheap looking box and quite an ugly kit. I find a lot of the Hasbro teams and accessories feel cheap and nasty - I guess it’s the latter day mass production techniques adopted. Nevertheless less, it is quite unusual and sits figuratively on the same bottom shelf as The Farm and Renault Trucks teams.
RENAULT TRUCKS
The Renaults Trucks team is another strange one which was produced for marketing and promotional purposes. Not a lot is known about this really. I prefer this one over the Tango Barmy FC team as they used a lightweight AC Milan Ref: 057. This struck a cord with me as it is a kit the Bournemouth team often adopt when another team clashes with black shorts. To be honest the slide in box is pretty good and I am surprised Subbuteo never actually mass produced a green version of it.
